Tidy up the utility room
Help your customers keep the utility room tidy and make it the ideal multi-purpose space.

Washing machine, tumble dryer, laundry, vacuum cleaner, shoes, jackets, dog basket… There has to be space for lots of things in the utility room, while it also has to be tidy, so that it’s also a pleasure for the family to be in the room every day. The utility room is a multi-purpose space, and it can be difficult to keep it all tidy and make room for everything, if it doesn’t really have the right storage facilities.
Here is some inspiration and tips on how best to design the utility room and keep it tidy.

Tip 1:
You know everything about the well-designed utility room, and your extensive knowledge and readiness to ask questions can help your customers be sure that they get the right solution when they want to fit out or renovate the utility room.
Important questions to clarify the customer’s needs:
What does the family want to store in the utility room?
Does the space match their dreams?
Are there things that could be somewhere else, e.g. in a garage?
If the room isn’t very big, has the family considered whether the washing machine and tumble dryer could be installed behind sliding doors in a corridor or in a bathroom?
What kinds of drawers, shelves and special solutions does the family need?
Tip 2:
Get rid of all the mess. Hide away everything that can be hidden away. The washing machine, tumble dryer, chopping board and wash basin can easily be concealed behind sliding doors. This creates a functional, tidy and stylish space. This is an option both if the customer has a dedicated utility room and if, for example, there is a utility room function in a hallway.
Many customers are not aware that they can utilise the space from ceiling to floor, which actually provides 30% more space than a traditional cupboard. Air above a cupboard simply collects dirt.

Tip 3:
The utility room shouldn’t just be tidy. It must also be good to work in – and easy. Maybe your customer doesn’t give much thought to how often the washing machine and tumble dryer are in use? Machines can be installed at an ergonomically correct height, which makes a difference in everyday life. It can also be a good solution to mount a pull-out panel under the machines, where there is room to place a laundry basket, to avoid heavy lifting from the floor when the washing machine has to be emptied. The space at the top of a cupboard is ideal for vases or other items that are not used so often.
Lots of different solutions ensure that there is an ideal space for lots of things in the utility room. Of course, the ironing board can stand in a cupboard, but it can also be hidden away in a drawer and automatically appear when your customer pulls out the drawer. So it couldn’t be easier. A pull-out rail can also be a great solution to make room for those freshly ironed trousers.
Tip 4:
Why not combine the tidy utility room with a cosy atmosphere and space to settle down? There’s no reason why the utility room has to be white on white. Give the walls a new, natural colour with plenty of character, and make room for a comfy bench where you can sit and tie up your shoe laces. Maybe there should also be a space for a green plant to brighten things up.
